Breast Uplift

Restore a pert and shapely silhouette

A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is a procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts. As a woman ages, skin loses some elasticity which can cause the breasts to lose their natural shape and firmness. This procedure is designed to elevate the breasts and give them a more youthful appearance. A breast lift may also be completed in conjunction with breast augmentation surgery (breast implants). Childbirth, age and also significant weight loss can all take their toll on women’s bodies – in particular with breasts. For many women, breast uplift surgery can offer a way to help restore a more youthful outline. We most often hear women who would like to wear more of the clothes they used to, or simply feel like they want their own body back. At your consultation, we’ll talk to you about your frame, height and other features that will affect your choices. At the end of the day, it’s about what is right for you.

I am so impressed with Dr. Salman. I never would have thought in a million years that someone could make me look like this!

About this treatment

Background to the procedure

The operation involves the surgeon removing a small section of excess skin from each breast to lift the bustline, resulting in a much more youthful appearance.

The surgery works by making an incision on each breast, the skin is then lifted and stitched in its new position and excess skin removed. If there is a lack of natural breast tissue and you are looking for a fuller effect, your surgeon may recommend that you combine the procedure with breast augmentation, which involves inserting breast implants to add fullness to the breasts.

What to expect at my consultation

All consultations are private one-on-one sessions with Dr. Salman that normally last 30-40 minutes. During that time, the patient and surgeon will discuss their expectations for the results of the breast lift, including size and shape. The surgeon will also investigate the medical history of the breast lift surgery candidate, to ensure that the procedure is appropriate for the individual.

As part of the process, Dr. Salman will give you the opportunity to examine photographs of patients, so that you can see for yourself what to expect from breast lift surgery. He will discuss with you the shape of breasts that you desire, the possible surgical techniques to get your desired effect, and how your frame, height and other features affect your choices. It is important that you and your doctor agree on the aesthetics and mechanics of your surgery in order to obtain the results that you want.

What is involved with breast uplift surgery

All surgery is performed by Dr Salman himself – Ireland’s leading expert in breast augmentation and enhancement – at our state-of-the-art facility in Park West, Dublin.

Breast uplift surgery is usually carried out under a general anesthetic and takes approximately 2 hours, or 2.5 hours if you are combining the procedure with breast augmentation surgery.

You can expect to be in hospital for half a day. You will be closely monitored and cared for in our Park West Clinic until you are ready to go home.

What is the recovery after breast uplift surgery

After the operation patients are usually discharged the same day and a friend should drive them home from the hospital. Make sure that you take medications as prescribed.

First week. You should expect about 1-3 days of chest discomfort. Some bruising and swelling is normal and expected. Your breasts will settle into place in a few weeks. Most patients return to work in 7 days.

Six weeks. You will need to avoid strenuous exercise while you are healing. Dr. Salman will want to see you again to check on your progress.

What are the risks of complication?

All surgery, including cosmetic surgery, carries risks. Any potential complications will be discussed during consultation and you will be given a copy in writing.

FAQs

How do I know if surgery is right for me?

Your surgeon will tell you which form of breast surgery is most suitable for you and will help you understand the risks. Only you can decide whether the operation is right for you. Your surgeon will help you achieve your aim. Although no surgeon can give a guarantee, cosmetic surgery should not be scheduled unless there is a good chance you will be pleased with the result. The final decision remains one that only you can make. The exact method of surgery is determined by the amount of loose skin you have in the breast.

Where is the scar going to be?

Various methods may cause different scars. All surgery requires a scar and all scars take time to soften and fade. You will not see the final appearance of your scar until up to a year after surgery. The scar is usually red and raised for the first month or two after your operation.

Will I need to have implants inserted during my breast lift?

When too much volume has been lost to achieve a full breast shape an implant will be necessary. In some cases, a breast augmentation is performed at the same time to increase the overall size of the bust.

Will I be able to breastfeed after a breast uplift?

Yes, breastfeeding after the procedure should not be a problem.
