Upper Arm Lifts

Remove excess skin and fat creating a more toned and slimmer appearance

A cosmetic arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to remove excess skin and fat between the underarm and elbow for a more toned, slimmer appearance.
Over time, the soft tissue in the upper arm becomes lax and may begin to droop and sag, resulting in arms that appear loose and hanging. Soft sagging tissue on the upper arms may also be the result of a successful weight loss program. Often, even an otherwise productive exercise program cannot address the inelastic skin and fat deposits that may cause sagging upper arms and so an arm lift may be something you would like to talk about. Most of our patients talk about how happy they are to wear sleeveless blouses and shirts comfortably, to show their arms without feeling self-conscious.

I received a very pleasant welcome. The staff are extremely friendly and put my nerves very much at ease. The procedure that I consulted about was explained to me in very great detail. This was not a sales pitch and I was never put under any pressure to sign up to anything straight away. I was told to go home and think about everything that had been explained so that I could be definite that this is what I wanted.

About this treatment

Background to the procedure

Surgery to perform an upper arm lift typically takes about two hours and can be conducted under light anesthetic. In some cases, the upper arm lift can be accomplished using only liposuction and won’t require any incisions to be made. More intense upper arm lift surgery will use an incision placed in the crease of the armpit or down the inside of the arm. These incisions will be used to lift the skin, tighten the arms, remove excess fat and tighten arm ligaments. Following the upper arm lift procedure, the skin is sutured shut and a pressure garment or elastic bandage is applied to promote healthy healing.

What to expect at my consultation

All consultations are private one-on-one sessions with Dr. Salman that normally last 15-20 minutes. During your consultation Dr. Salman provides a clear understanding of the procedure, as well as an accurate picture of how your upper arms will look after the surgery. He will clearly discuss any potential risks of the procedure and answer any questions you might have.

What is involved with upper arm lift surgery

Liposuction is typically recommended for those patients who primarily have excess fat with tight skin. However, if the skin does not shrink following liposuction, the patient may want to consider an upper arm llift procedure. Liposuction is not a good solution if your problem is due to loose skin. When the skin is loose, a ‘lift’ surgery is usually the best choice.

What is the recovery after upper arm lift surgery

Patients should be able to return home the same day as surgery. Patients will have limited use of their arms immediately following an upper arm lift, but doctors discourage heavy lifting or even fully extending the arms for the first week or two after surgery. Upper arm lift patients will return a day or two after the procedure, and then usually again within two weeks for the removal of the sutures. During the first days and weeks after an upper arm lift procedure, patients may be required to follow a special regimen of light exercise and stretching to prevent the loss of range of motion of the arms.

What are the risks of complication?

All surgery, including cosmetic surgery, carries risks. Any potential complications will be discussed during consultation and you will be given a copy in writing.
