Laser Tattoo Removal

Are you unhappy with your tattoo? Laser removal might be the answer.

There are many so reasons why people choose to remove a tattoo. Often age, weight gain or quality of artwork are key factors while for others they simply change their outlook or tastes. It can be really distressing to live with body ink that you don’t really love, especially if you find yourself always trying to cover it up! Laser tattoo removal is simple, safe and can produce fantastic results with no lasting damage to the skin.

After 5 laser treatments I can now remove my shirt without embarrassment! My tattoo has almost completely faded and it has left no scars. Highly recommended and I am very happy with the results.

I received a very pleasant welcome. The staff are extremely friendly and put my nerves very much at ease. The procedure that I consulted about was explained to me in very great detail. This was not a sales pitch and I was never put under any pressure to sign up to anything straight away. I was told to go home and think about everything that had been explained so that I could be definite that this is what I wanted.

About this treatment

Background to the procedure

Laser tattoo removal is effective treatment for the safe removal of tattoos with minimal discomfort and no lasting damage to the skin. You may require from as little as 3 treatments.

What would I expect at the consultation?

All consultations are private one-on-one sessions that normally last 10-30 minutes. Your Doctor will talk you through the procedure, any concerns you may have and your expectations of the results.

What is involved with Laser Tattoo Removal?

The advanced technology works by passing the energy of a very short pulse of high power laser light through the skin and the tattoo ink is broken into smaller particles. The body then disposes of these fragments via its immune system.

Treatment time can vary depending on the size and the colours in the tattoo but you can expect a treatment of between 10 and 30 minutes.

What is the recovery after Laser Tattoo Removal?

Some people also experience a lightening or darkening of the affected skin, though in most cases this returns to normal after six months. Redness in the area is common after the procedure, but subsides quickly. Your Doctor will advise if there is anything you need to avoid following treatment such as make up, extensive sun or heat exposure.

What are the risks of complication?

As with all treatments, please consider planning social events around treatments. Any potential complications will be discussed during consultation and you will be given a copy in writing.

Aftercare

Patient care has always been at the forefront of everything we do, this is why we are a leading cosmetic surgery provider in Ireland. We believe that ‘aftercare’ is just as important a part of the entire cosmetic treatment procedure as the treatment itself. With Auralia, you can be rest assured that all your aftercare needs will be completely fulfilled, providing you the support you need for a fast and stress-free recovery.

FAQs

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed depends on the type of tattoo: its size, how deep it is and whether it is single colour or multi-coloured; and how well your skin responds to treatment.

There are two main types of tattoos – the single colour (Indian ink) amateur tattoo or the multi-coloured professional tattoo.

The single colour, Indian ink amateur tattoo, usually responds most satisfactorily to laser treatment and may respond to as few as two treatments, but usually requires between six to ten treatments for them to resolve.

Multi-coloured, professional tattoos are more difficult to remove completely due to the colours they contain. Red, black and dark blue are usually easier to fade than white, grey, yellow or orange. Whilst the Indian ink tattoo and red areas in the tattoo may disappear after six to ten treatments, the other colours may need considerably more treatments. Professional tattoos may need treating up to twenty times, even with the latest and most modern systems.

Will it hurt?

The lasers will cause some discomfort during treatment, similar to being “snapped” with a rubber band. Most patients tolerate the discomfort of treatment very well, but a local anesthetic cream is available if required.
