Scar Treatment

Dramatically improve the appearance of scars with expert scar removal treatment at Auralia

A scar is the body's attempt to heal itself after any injury. Scar tissue often has a different texture and quality than to the surrounding skin. The type of scar revision treatment you opt for will depend on the size, location and character of your scar. It will also depend on your reasons for having treatment in the first place, i.e. is your scar causing you distress because of its appearance or is it causing you an actual physical problem. We offer several surgical and non-surgical treatments. We recommend a consultation with our doctors to determine the best treatment for you and your needs.

I had such a quick response to my enquiry, the staff were very helpful and I had a date booked for me within minutes. I had a consultation with Dr. Salman who was very pleasant and talked me through the whole procedure in detail. I can't tell you how pleased I am with the results and I would definitely recommend this clinic to others!

About this treatment

What is a scar?

Scars are formed when the dermis skin is cut, abraded (severely rubbed by friction), burned, or damaged in some way. The body forms new collagen fibers (a naturally occurring protein in the body) to mend the damage, resulting in a scar. The new scar tissue will have a different texture and quality than the surrounding tissue. Scars form after a wound is completely healed. Common scars can be from acne, burns, cuts, bites and more.

Types of scars

Depending on the type of person or injury, some scarring may take the form of keloid, hypertrophic, or contractures. Acne scars are a common type of scar that can be made less noticeable through the use of fillers and laser treatment.

Keloid scar removal

Keloid scars are the result of an overly aggressive healing process and occur when collagen overgrows and produces a lump much bigger than the wound itself.

Hypertrophic scar removal

Raised and red scars that are similar to keloids, but do not breach the boundaries of the injury site.

Contracture scar removal

If your skin has been burned, you may have a contracture scar, which causes tightening of skin that can impair your ability to move; additionally, this type of scar may go deeper to affect muscles and nerves.

Non-surgical treatments

These can include injections, laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels and microdermabrasion.

Surgical scar procedures

You may consider having a type of surgery known as scar revision. Scar revision surgery can only improve the way the scar looks, rather than removing it entirely. No scar can be taken off completely. Scar revision surgery can, however, make your scar much less noticeable, or less severe.

The size, depth, blood supply to the damaged skin, thickness, and color of the scars all will affect a person’s decision to undergo scar revision surgery. Some types of keloid scarring can be made worse, however, by scar revision surgery.

Some scarring may actually decrease naturally from the initial time of injury. Because of these possibilities, you may want to wait for some time (a year or so) before undergoing scar revision surgery.

Patient care has always been at the forefront of everything we do. We believe that ‘aftercare’ is just as important a part of the entire cosmetic treatment procedure as the treatment itself.

Our registered, professional and highly trained medical team are accessible at all times to advise you on your individual needs, to explain exactly what the procedure entails and to assist you with any concerns you may have following your treatment.
